Weakening a system to prove its inefficiency

· 1 min

If you want to abolish something you control, make it fail.

Underfund it. Appoint incompetent leaders. Add bureaucracy. Wait. Then point to the failures as proof that it never worked.

This pattern has a name: starve the beast. It’s common in politics, especially among those who favor privatization. They control the system they want to shrink. Sabotage is easy. Patience does the rest.

The lesson: when someone criticizes an institution, ask what power they have over it.

A critic with no control is sharing an observation. A critic with control might be manufacturing evidence.
